I aim to determine the causes and effects resulting from discriminatory behavior over a timeline of an average African American. I will be shedding light on how people of color face social, economic, racial and educational disparities and how they are entrenched in US institutions. Instances of inequality range from the obvious to less overtly discriminatory policies and belief systems, from school to police.

Historical Examples of the former include poll taxes that effectively disenfranchised African American voters; the marginalization of African American soldiers; black innovators, exploitation of black women’s bodies, the Jim Crow era; the government-mandated segregation of American cities; and segregation in schools.
